Picture this.

“Elvis Grbac drops back to pass……he’s looking toward the end zone…Grbac’s got a man…it’s going to be a jump ball for Griffey…and he comes down with it! Touchdown, Michigan! What a catch by Ken Griffey Jr.!”

Sounds crazy right? Apparently that wasn’t such a crazy thought about 30 years ago.

Long before he was inducted into the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame as one of the great players of all time, Griffey was a multi-sport star at Archbishop Moeller High School (Ohio). A star receiver on the football team and a star outfielder on the baseball team, Griffey was destined for success at the next level.

Of course, Griffey made the right choice by choosing baseball. He was the No. 1 overall pick out of high school and the rest is history.

But Griffey, who grew up in Cincinnati, was asked on the Dan Patrick Show if he would’ve went to Ohio State if he picked football.

“No, I would’ve probably gone to Michigan,” said Griffey, who had more football offers than baseball offers. “Only because one of my friends went to Michigan. As a freshman and sophomore, he was my big brother at (Archbishop Moeller High School).”

Griffey’s brother, Craig, was a defensive back at Ohio State in the early 1990s. As Griffey said, he got to experience the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry back in the day.

It would’ve been fun to see one of the great athletes of the last 30 years be a part of one of the great rivalries in all of sports.
