There are normal ways to call a game and then there’s the Gus Johnson way.

The FOX play-by-play man has made a career of excitement and combustibility and a peculiar ability to turn a phrase. Johnson was rightfully in championship mode Saturday during the first half of the Big Ten Championship Game between No. 2 Michigan and No. 13 Iowa. And when UM edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson got to Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras for a sack late in the second quarter, Johnson was feeling it.

Sometimes you just gotta be a little extra.

Here’s the full play from Hutchinson.

The senior defender helped lead Michigan to a 14-3 halftime lead over the Hawkeyes in Indianapolis. Iowa had just 35 rushing yards on 19 attempts in the first half. The Hawkeyes were held to 4.4 yards per play as they punted on 5 of their 7 first-half possessions. Three different times Iowa was punched off the field after just 3 plays. Hutchinson had only the one sack, but he made his presence felt in other ways.

You can watch the second half on FOX.
