Jim Harbaugh is shaking up his staff heading into 2021, but no hire has been better than bringing Mike Hart back to Ann Arbor.

The legendary running back and all-time leading rusher for the Wolverines recently signed on to coach the running backs at Michigan. Beyond Hart being well-known and well-liked by the fanbase, he is regarded as an up-and-comer in the world of coaching.

Even with all of those things working in favor of the Wolverines, Harbaugh was able to deal a blow to a B1G East rival by hiring Hart. Hart was the RBs coach at Indiana, serving as one of the key assistants to Tom Allen and the Hoosiers. Poaching Hart off of that staff is a big blow for Allen.

On Friday, details of Hart’s contract were released. According to Angelique Chengelis with the Detroit News, it is a two-year contract for Hart with a signing bonus of $115,000.

Hart’s base salary for 2021 will be $415,000:

According to Zach Osterman with the Indy Star, Hart was expected to make $375,001 at Indiana under his current contract before bonuses:

Obviously returning to Ann Arbor was a big draw, but the money also made the return worthwhile. Hopefully he is able to produce a strong running back room with the Wolverines.
