The Game rivalry is always alive and well, and it is brewing early for two of the newest Wolverines.

The players are linebacker Cornell Wheeler and safety Makari Paige. The two were high school teammates and in-state recruits at West Bloomfield and will continue to play as teammates at the next level.

In terms of rating, Wheeler is a three-star prospect and the No. 13 prospect in the state for 2020 on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. Paige is a four-star prospect and the No. 6 player out of the state for this class.

After signing, the two discussed playing for the Wolverines with Jared Purcell of MLive.com. Both are excited to continue as teammates at the next level and share similar goals:

“It should be fun, being with him every day, definitely,” Paige said. “It should be a fun time. We’ve both got one goal.”

For Wheeler, the goals at Michigan are two-fold.

“Win the Big Ten championships and beating Ohio State,” Wheeler said.

It’s good to see the two already looking forward to The Game, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a whole lot for the showdown. After all, the Buckeyes have won eight straight in the series and dominated the majority of those wins.

On the other hand, Michigan has to turn the tide at some point…right? Can Wheeler and Paige help secure a win in the rivalry series?
