No. 8 Michigan (6-0) is a huge contender for its first B1G Championship since 2004.

Junior quarterback Cade McNamara has led Michigan to an undefeated record six games into the season. McNamara has passed for 986 yards, 5 touchdowns, and only 1 interception on 72-for-119 passing.

McNamara has played well as a game-manager for the Wolverines, but there are several fans still hopeful for true freshman J.J. McCarthy to take over or at least take more reps.

In four games played this season, McCarthy has passed for 178 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions on 9-for-14 passing. He also has a rushing touchdown this season.

McCarthy committed to play for Michigan in 2019 and kept his commitment. According to 247Sports Composite, McCarthy was ranked as the fifth-best QB and sixth-best player from Illinois in the 2021 National Recruiting class.

Despite fans wanting more of McCarthy, he is waiting his turn behind McNamara. He is loving the attention from Wolverine Nation, however.

Here’s a look at McCarthy’s comments on the fanbase from Angelique Chengelis with the Detroit News:

McCarthy has loads of potential and has looked good at times. It is good to see he is also taking everything in stride and appreciating the fans for their support.
