Michigan is back, ya’ll.

After curb-stomping No. 14 Penn State 42-7 on Saturday afternoon, the Wolverines have improved to 8-1 (6-0), increasing their win streak to eight while remaining the only team in the Big Ten to have an unblemished conference record.

Big Ten Network analyst Stanley Jackson has seen enough out of the resurgent Wolverines to spark a debate: Is Michigan college football’s No. 2 team behind Alabama?

UM, which has the 18th-ranked strength of schedule, per Jeff Sagarin, has outscored opponents by an average score of 39.2-12.3 during its winning streak, holding the other team to 14 points or less in five of those contests. More importantly, however, the Wolverines have beaten three straight ranked opponents — Wisconsin, Michigan State and Penn State — in convincing fashion, allowing just three total touchdowns while giving the playoff committee plenty of reason to be impressed moving into the second week of November.

They’re 3-for-3 in their “Revenge Tour,” and though Rutgers and Indiana are next up on the schedule, you better believe they’ve got their eyes set on Nov. 24 in Columbus to finish the season batting 1.000 before competing for a conference title and a sure playoff bid.
