Isaiah Barnes, Michigan guard, reportedly receives answer on redshirt waiver request
Isaiah Barnes’ redshirt waiver for the 2021-22 season has been approved, according to a report.
On3’s Clayton Sayfie was 1st to share that news on Sunday afternoon. Barnes played just 6 minutes during his true freshman season, so his redshirt waiver was granted.
Barnes is now officially listed as a redshirt freshman on Michigan’s online roster.

Barnes will now have 3 years of eligibility remaining in college. He showed signs of being able to eventually grow into a rotation role with the Wolverines this season. He scored a career-high 6 points in Michigan’s loss to Kentucky earlier this season.
In 2022-23, he played in 15 games and averaged 6 minutes per contest. Listed at 6-foot-7, Barnes has tremendous size for the guard position. He averaged over 1 rebound per game as a redshirt freshman.
Michigan is likely to miss out on the NCAA Tournament but could accept an invite for the NIT. If that happens, Barnes could receive more playing time this season.
Michigan has a 17-15 record this season.
