Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys chose to draft former Michigan DL Mazi Smith on Thursday. When asked about the decision Jones gave out a great answer.

One reporter said “Just because you said it, doesn’t make it so right?”. According to Jones, the Cowboys owner wasn’t in the draft room although Smith was about 13th or 14th on their board.

Jones didn’t seem to care about how high or low Smith was on the Cowboys draft board and said, “Who gives a shit. We got him,” in response to the question.

Smith was selected with the 27th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Smith appeared in a total of 30 games while at Michigan. He recorded 88 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks as a Wolverine.

Smith played a big role on Michigan’s defensive line the past couple of seasons, leading the defense to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances. Smith became one of the top members of the defense after Aidan Hutchinson left for the NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys reached the playoffs once again and actually advanced past the first round for once this past season. Dallas beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, but lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional round.

Fans will be hoping that Smith can strengthen the defensive line in Dallas much like he did in Ann Arbor.
