Jim Harbaugh has recorded the highest earnings of his tenure as Michigan coach finishing the 2022 season with just over $10 million per MLive. After Harbaugh’s team won the B1G for a second straight year, he would see the $7.05 million base salary added to with numerous bonuses and incentives.

Michigan agreed to restructure his contract into a five-year deal which was signed in February with several incentives built-in. The incentives include winning the B1G East division, winning the B1G, and other accolades.

Per MLive Harbaugh received $500,000 for winning the B1G, $50,000 for being named the B1G’s Coach of the Year and another $500,000 payment for the appearance in the College Football Playoff semifinal. An additional $1 million was allocated as a deferred retirement payment.

The figure places Harbaugh among the nation’s top earners alongside Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker. With the recent news of possible NCAA level I, Michigan could terminate Harbaugh without having to pay the $3 million buyout written into his current contract.
