Jim Harbaugh discusses involvement of Juwan Howard with Michigan's football program
The scenes in Ann Arbor on Saturday were tremendous.
Snow falling, the entire crowd on hand at Michigan Stadium pouring onto the field, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh hanging around in the middle of it to celebrate the team’s 42-27 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes.
And then there was a random Juwan Howard sighting. The Michigan basketball coach found Harbaugh and congratulated him.
Except it wasn’t random. According to Harbaugh, Howard has been around quite a bit.

“That was just so cool,” Harbaugh said on a coaches teleconference call Sunday ahead of next week’s Big Ten title game. “He’s been great. He spoke to our team on more than a couple occasions. … Great guy, great coach, and loves Michigan. And we love him for that.”
Both Harbaugh and Howard are Michigan men coaching at their alma maters. Howard started 95 games over 3 seasons for the Wolverines from 1991-94 and was famously part of the Fab 5. Harbaugh, of course, starred at quarterback for the Wolverines in the 80s.
When Harbaugh returned as the Wolverines head coach, he was tasked with returning the Michigan that was to the Michigan he knew in those final 2 years he quarterbacked the team. With Saturday’s win, Michigan is theoretically just a game away from the College Football Playoff and a chance to accomplish that goal.
The Wolverines play Iowa (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) for the Big Ten championship on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
