Jim Harbaugh continues to be a rumored candidate for a coaching job in the NFL as his Michigan team gears up to play for the College Football Playoff National Championship. NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero shared a lengthy new report on Harbaugh that included multiple notes of interest.

The NFL.com article lists the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders as teams that could look to speak with Harbaugh. According to the report, Harbaugh has a preference:

Many within the league believe Harbaugh’s preferred landing spot would be the Chargers, who plan to run parallel searches for a new coach and GM after firing Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco on Dec. 15. However, sources say Harbaugh is just one of many names they’re doing homework on at this time.

Harbaugh’s demonstrated interest in NFL jobs in the past two years is frequently cited in reports of a potential return to the pros. Rapoport and Pelissero indicate that Harbaugh could approach the interview process differently in 2024:

During previous interviews, Harbaugh was thought to only take a job that would include the hire of his preferred GM. Sources now say that’s not in Harbaugh’s mind. He’s much more flexible than in previous years, open to a variety of structures with an acknowledgement that the structure of NFL buildings has changed since he last coached in the league.

While the Carolina job is also open, Harbaugh is not thought to be a candidate to be the next Panthers head coach, according to the NFL.com report. Harbaugh will have some big decisions to make after Monday’s national title game.
