Jim Harbaugh has been named as a finalist for the Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant Coach of the Year award, a prize given to the top coach in college football’s FBS ranks.

Tennessee’s Josh Heupel, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Sonny Dykes from TCU, Willie Fritz from Tulane, and Jeff Traylor from UTSA are also finalists. Harbaugh is the sole representative from the B1G.

Along with Smart and Dykes, Harbaugh will be coaching his team in the College Football Championship as Michigan takes on TCU. Smart and the Bulldogs will go head-to-head with Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Day is the only coach with a team in the Playoffs that was not named as a finalist for the Coach of the Year award.

Harbaugh’s U-M squad finished the regular season 12-0 and improved to 13-0 with a win in the B1G Championship Game.
