Jim Harbaugh officially names Michigan's starting QB for Week 1
Michigan officially has a starting quarterback — and it’s who you’d expect.
Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh named redshirt sophomore Cade McNamara as Michigan’s QB1 this season. It’s not necessarily a surprise, but now it’s official. McNamara beat out Texas Tech transfer Alan Bowman and five-star freshman JJ McCarthy for the starting job.
Last year, McNamara completed 43 of his 71 passes for 5 touchdowns and came off the bench to replace Joe Milton in the season finale against Rutgers. Now, with Milton as the starting quarterback at Tennessee, it’s McNamara’s show.
The Wolverines are coming off a disappointing 2020 campaign in which they finished 2-4. They were picked third in the B1G East preseason poll and will open the 2021 season this week against Western Michigan.
