Jim Harbaugh didn’t even have time to digest Michigan’s 38-13 win over Wisconsin before he was asked about next week’s matchup against Michigan State. Now that the Wolverines have proven they’re for real, everyone is focusing on the in-state rivalry.

Michigan showed no mercy on the Badgers, shredding them from start to finish. It was easily one of the more impressive victories in the Harbaugh era.

But the head coach didn’t get to enjoy it, at least not in the post-game press conference. With Michigan State lurking around the corner, reporters wanted to get Harbaugh’s thoughts on the upcoming rivalry game.

The response was simple.

“We’ll be intense for it,” Harbaugh said.

Nothing more to his answer. Just plain and simple. And that’s probably the way it should be for now.

Although Michigan posted a huge win on Saturday night, it’s 1-5 against Michigan State and Ohio State during the Harbaugh era. It’s the one record that is continually brought up in press conferences.

Keeping it simple was probably a smart move. Michigan is going to be in the national spotlight enough this week, it doesn’t need any additional attention.

And it’s not as if it’s an uncommon response from Harbaugh, by the way. For those types of questions, Harbaugh usually has a brief response.

Michigan will be intense for it. Michigan State will be the same.

Next Saturday can’t get here fast enough.
