It turns out Michigan and Penn State have quite a bit in common in 2020.

Both are going through disastrous seasons, and now both are in the midst of a quarterback controversy. During Saturday’s blowout loss to Wisconsin, Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh used two quarterbacks. That has now led to Harbaugh reevaluating the quarterback position all together.

This news came out during Harbaugh’s regularly scheduled Monday press conference.

Heading into 2020, Joe Milton appeared to be the clear-cut starter for Michigan. The junior sat behind Shea Patterson previously and now had his own time to shine.

In Week 1, it appeared Harbaugh finally had his high-level quarterback as Milton went 15-for-22 for 225 yards and a touchdown in a win against Minnesota.

But then, the momentum for Milton slowly faded away. He threw for 300 yards against Michigan State but did not throw a touchdown. A week later, Milton threw for three touchdowns but also two interceptions.

Then, things hit a breaking point against the Badgers on Saturday. In each of Michigan’s first two drives, Milton threw an interception.

That ultimately led to Milton’s benching and the appearance of backup quarterback Cade McNamara. The sophomore out of Reno, Nevada, went 4-for-10 but threw a touchdown in the loss to Wisconsin.

What Harbaugh saw out of McNamara was enough for Harbaugh to consider both quarterbacks heading into Saturday’s game against Rutgers.

Regardless of who’s under center on Saturday, it seems safe to say Harbaugh is still looking for his quarterback in Ann Arbor.
