Jim Harbaugh provides update on Tarik Black, two other injured Michigan players
Michigan wide receiver Tarik Black is improving every day but there’s still no timetable on his return, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.
During his weekly press conference on Monday, Harbaugh was asked about Black’s progression as he recovers from a broken bone in his right foot. While it’s still uncertain when the receiver will be back on the field, it sounds like he’s continuing to improve.
“He’s progressing,” Harbaugh said. “Nicely.”
Black suffered the injury just a week before Michigan’s season opener against Notre Dame. Last year, the receiver suffered from a similar injury in his left foot. In the first three games of 2017, he hauled in 11 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown.
He didn’t return to the field after sustaining the injury last season.
“He hopes he’s better today than he was yesterday,” Harbaugh said.
Black was expected to be the deep threat for Shea Patterson and the Wolverines this season. Instead, Michigan has leaned heavily on Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones, who have combined for 32 receptions for 482 yards and six touchdowns. Tight end Zach Gentry has been the leading pass-catcher with 306 yards and a touchdown on 20 grabs.
Harbaugh also provided a status update on defensive lineman Rashan Gary and running back Chris Evans. Both will undergo further evaluation and will remain day-to-day until cleared.
Both Gary and Evans missed Saturday’s game against Maryland.
Michigan hosts Wisconsin on Saturday night.
