Jim Harbaugh knows he used to have strong opinions about chicken. However, the head coach did an about-face at his Monday press conference.

Harbaugh revealed he personally has chickens after he purchased some chicks around Easter in 2020. He said he has been the one responsible for caring for those chickens ever since, and he has a newfound respect for the animal.

Per Harbaugh, the chickens are low maintenance and high production, something that has given him respect for the birds.

“I’m the one that takes care of them, and the respect I have for chickens. I know there was a time I said that chicken is a nervous bird, I don’t eat chicken, I only eat meat. But I was dead wrong,” Harbaugh admitted. “I stand corrected. These chickens are low maintenance and high production. They lay an egg every 26-27 hours. They need water, they need food and I play with them too.”

Harbaugh went on to say the chickens are happy to see him and also believes the practice of caring for the animals helps his mental health.

“We run around, they’re happy to see me. There’s times when I’m doing good things for other people and they’re not as happy to see me as the chickens are,” said Harbaugh. “It’s good, good for my mental health as well. Get fresh eggs every day.”
