Rivalry games always have a little more juice. Throughout an entire week, there’s plenty of trash talk and excessive hype leading up to the kickoff. Michigan-Michigan State is no different.

Jim Harbaugh wants it to be a little different, though. He doesn’t believe all the “rah rah” chatter through the week is all that necessary, even before such a huge rivalry game.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, Harbaugh was asked if players were to keep quiet about the rivalry matchup against the Spartans. He made it clear that he isn’t a huge fan of that kind of stuff.

“I think we could all use a break from the clichés that have been plowed so thoroughly on both sides,” Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh was also asked what the message would be to his players with the opportunity to notch another top 25 win this weekend.

“Great opportunity,” he responded.

While everyone outside of Ann Arbor continues to build the anticipation for one of the biggest games of the season in the B1G, Harbaugh is keeping things simple. And maybe that’s the best strategy ahead of Saturday afternoon.

Both Michigan and Michigan State are coming off huge wins. And the winner of this weekend’s matchup gets a leg up in the East Division.

Don’t expect there to be much chatter coming out of Ann Arbor, though. At least not until after the game.
