Jim Harbaugh staying optimistic about Michigan’s future: ‘Game’s not over until it’s over’

Jim Harbaugh isn’t about to give up after one loss, even if it was in really ugly fashion.

Michigan took a pounding at the hands of Wisconsin on Saturday, falling 35-14 in Madison to drop to 2-1 on the year. Just like that, all the talk about the Wolverines being a favorite to win the B1G East has vanished. Now, folks are talking about UM has a team that could finish 8-4 or worse.

On Monday night, Harbaugh talked about bouncing back from the ugly loss and trudging forward, even as fans and media are beginning to turn. But the Michigan head coach is still optimistic about the outlook of the season — not that he’d really have much option anyway.

“Game’s not over until it’s over just like you’re not dead until you’re dead,” Harbaugh said, according to Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News. The weekly show airs on 99.3 WQAN.

It’s not just the fact that Michigan lost to Wisconsin on the road — though that would’ve been enough for many to turn. The Wovlerines weren’t even competitive in the matchup, essentially laughed off the field. That’s the cause for concern.

Michigan still has five ranked opponents on the schedule, too — #5 Ohio State, #10 Notre Dame, #12 Penn State, #14 Iowa and #25 Michigan State. They’re going to need to turn things around quickly if they want to remain a contender in the East.

The Wolverines will attempt to get back on track this weekend, hosting Rutgers.
