Jim Harbaugh suspension: Big Ten explains timing of decision
Jim Harbaugh received an explanation from the B1G on the timing of his suspension on Friday.
Michigan left Ann Arbor Friday afternoon to travel to Penn State for the upcoming matchup with the Nittany Lions.
Harbaugh won’t be able to be on the sidelines for the last 3 regular season games of the year. Michigan faces Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State in that order.
The reasoning for the timing of the suspension was detailed in an email to Michigan AD Warde Manuel. The B1G explained its actions by stating that “the existence of the impermissible scheme is proven.”
The B1G believed that taking immediate action was needed due to its sportsmanship policy even though other investigations are still taking place.
“The existence of the impermissible scheme is proven, ” The B1G said in the email. “While other investigatory bodies continue to develop additional evidence of the scope, extent and individual knowledge of the scheme that may advise additional or enhanced penalties in the future, taking immediate action is appropriate and necessary under the Conference’s Sportsmanship Policy.”
Harbaugh will be able to return to the sidelines after the Ohio State game. He can then coach in the B1G Championship and College Football Playoff if necessary.
