Jim Harbaugh updates QB battle, depth chart for Wolverines entering fall camp

Michigan has named its starting quarterback going into fall camp. During Thursday’s B1G Media Day, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said sophomore Cade McNamara will get the initial nod.
McNamara was tabbed ahead of five-star prospect JJ McCarthy and dual-threat quarterback Dan Villari.

Harbaugh expressed why McNamara is getting the first crack under center.

However, Harbaugh added that Villari might still get reps on offense as well as special teams for the time being.

As a freshman, McNamara amassed 425 yards, with 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. McCarthy was rated by 247Sports as the fourth-best quarterback in the nation for the class of 2021.
Michigan struggled with a 2-4 record during the shortened 2020 season. Michigan opens this season on Sept. 4 vs. visiting Western Michigan.
