Jim Harbaugh's top-dollar deal might be at Michigan per NFL insider
Jim Harbaugh’s coaching future remains cloudy with conflicting reports of his whereabouts surfacing on Wednesday.
According to some reports, Harbaugh had left Los Angeles while others said the head coach remained in talks with the Chargers. It’s also been reported Harbaugh and the Atlanta Falcons have had a Thursday meeting lined up, but it’s unclear if that will take place.
Wednesday afternoon, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio made an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” to discuss the wild day. According to Florio, it was always clear Harbaugh’s changing agents was to get the head coach his best financial offer available before making a decision.
Ultimately, Harbaugh’s top-dollar contract might be to sign an extension at Michigan:
“There’s been a belief all along that Don Yee who he hired a few weeks back, and that was the biggest signal he was going to pursue NFL opportunities, that Yee was going to work this and get the best possible financial offer for Jim Harbaugh and then he’ll make his decision,” explained Florio. “And if money is his top factor, it might not be the NFL, it might be Michigan where he has a huge offer on the table.”
Michigan “might be where he lands if it comes down to raw dollars,” Florio added.
He went on to say the Chargers are “sensitive” about a perception of being unwilling to pay. “That said, something kept this from happening while he was in the building… You take a calculated risk when you let him out of the building.”
Where will Harbaugh wind up next? Is he still due in Atlanta on Thursday, or has he had enough of the NFL process to sign a long-term extension with the Wolverines? Stay tuned.
