JJ McCarthy details how Michigan's mindset is different in 2023
JJ McCarthy has helped guide Michigan to a 4-0 start to the season, and 3 of those wins came without head coach Jim Harbaugh. Now, the team is preparing for its first road game of the season with a trip to Lincoln.
At his Monday press conference, McCarthy said it doesn’t matter where the game is played or what the task is in front of the Wolverines. Their goal is simply to be better each and every day.
It’s something he says is a bit different for the team this fall:
“I feel like this team is different in that aspect where it doesn’t matter if we’re on the road or in the Big House, no matter what, we’re always striving to get better each and every day,” said McCarthy. “No matter where it is. Coach Hart does a great job of emphasizing no matter what the external circumstances are, it’s not going to change what we came here to do.”
We’re not going to let anything change our mindset, mentality, and strive to be great.

For McCarthy, that improvement in Week 4 meant a cleaner game after a string of turnovers against Bowling Green. He did not have a turnover while completing 15-of-21 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown while adding 51 yards on the ground.
Now, he’ll try to keep the improvements coming against Nebraska.
