JJ McCarthy’s NFL Draft stock has been trending upward following the scouting combine in Indianapolis.

Which team will pull the trigger on replacing McCarthy? Here are the odds for the top 4 teams, via DraftKings:

  • Minnesota Vikings: +150
  • New York Giants: +350
  • Denver Broncos: +350
  • New England Patriots: +550

McCarthy would stay in Big Ten territory if the NFL Draft plays out how the oddsmakers expect. Minnesota is looking for a long-term solution at quarterback after the departure of Kirk Cousins. McCarthy has 3/2 odds of becoming a Viking at +150.

The Giants, Broncos and Patriots are also in the QB market. New York and Denver are getting the same odds of 7/2 (+350). It’s 11/2 for McCarthy becoming at Patriot at +550.

Why Minnesota is the favorite for McCarthy

Following Cousins’ signing with the Atlanta Falcons, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio dove into the Vikings’ QB situation. While Minnesota has Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall under contract, the club is obviously looking to add to its QB room for 2024.

While there are available quarterbacks with starting experience via free agency and potential trades, it’s important to remember that Cousins is still costing the club $28 million in dead money against the salary cap.

With the economic considerations, it becomes almost certain that the Vikings will acquire their quarterback of the future in the first round of the draft. With McCarthy on a rookie deal, the club could sign a veteran with starting experience who could provide a potential upgrade from Mullens.

The Vikings have the No. 11 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Seth Trachtman recently slotted McCarthy to Minnesota at No. 11, per the NFL Mock Draft Database.

Since the calendar flipped to 2024, Tyler Forness of VikingsWire has been monitoring mock drafts for Minnesota’s pick. Of 295 total mocks this year, McCarthy is the most popular player, making 43 mocks.

Interestingly, not everyone thinks Minnesota will wait until No. 11 to grab McCarthy. Diante Lee of The Athletic has Minnesota trading up to No. 6 to grab McCarthy in his Monday mock draft.

Many Michigan fans are interested in seeing where McCarthy will begin his professional career. Right now, all signs point to Minnesota.
