JJ McCarthy is trying to play his way into the heart of the discussion for the Heisman Trophy, and he has shredded Michigan State’s defense with apparent ease in the rivalry game.

McCarthy has maintained a blend of athleticism and arm talent that few quarterbacks have. Earlier in the week, head coach Jim Harbaugh even said McCarthy is on track to be the best all-time QB in the history of the Wolverines.

At the break, McCarthy has completed 20-of-26 passes for 276 yards and 3 touchdowns without an interception to go with 8 yards on the ground. McCarthy completed passes to 6 different receivers in the first half.

Considering his dazzling start, some fans are clamoring for the Heisman Trophy discussion to include Michigan’s QB. Coming out of Week 7, Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. was widely considered the current runaway player for the award and the leader in the Heisman odds.
