JJ McCarthy projected as top-10 pick in latest NFL.com mock draft
JJ McCarthy’s stock for the 2024 NFL Draft continues to soar ahead of the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
Coming out of Michigan’s national title, McCarthy has been a near-consensus first-round pick on most mock drafts. Now, he’s as high as a top-10 pick for one analyst.
NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah dropped his updated 2.0 mock draft on Tuesday with McCarthy soaring into the top 10. He projected McCarthy to the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 8 overall pick.
Atlanta is moving forward with new head coach Raheem Morris, and it’s unlikely Desmond Ridder is the long-term answer for the Falcons. The good news in Atlanta is the team has stockpiled young skill players in recent drafts, meaning the team may be able to afford to pursue a first-round QB in the draft.
Here’s what Jeremiah had to say about the pick:
A lot of people around the NFL expect the Falcons to be aggressive when it comes to finding a quarterback in this year’s draft. They could trade up or, as they do in this case, stay at No. 8 and bet on McCarthy’s traits.

As for McCarthy, analysts have been projecting Michigan’s star QB to come off the board earlier than some might expect. Joel Klatt recently broke down some of the traits that make McCarthy click, including his unselfishness and a projectable skill set despite not being asked to do much with his arm at Michigan.
We’ll see when McCarthy comes off the board, but he can solidify his rising stock with a strong showing at the combine.
