Joel Klatt isn’t backing off the idea Michigan fans should be a little unsettled. Despite a 3-0 start to the season, Klatt harped on the recent performance of JJ McCarthy as a cause for concern for the Wolverines.

In Week 3, McCarthy tossed 3 interceptions in a sluggish start against Bowling Green. While the Wolverines eventually posted a comfortable win, Klatt said the media would “eviscerate” Ohio State for such a performance but not Michigan.

“I got a lot of people thinking I threw shade at JJ McCarthy and Michigan on Monday when I suggested that we all imagine a scenario where Ohio State was in a 7-6 game in the middle of the second quarter with Bowling Green with their QB throwing 3 interceptions,” said Klatt. “I stand by that. I absolutely stand by that. We would eviscerate Ohio State if that was the case and we don’t do that with Michigan in part because we know their style of play.”

Klatt went on to say his label for Michigan fans right now should be “antsy” with the status of the B1G East. He also said turnovers from McCarthy would be the fastest way to derail a successful season with an always “fine” run game and solid defense.

“With what’s going on in the Big Ten East, namely Ohio State and Penn State, I would feel antsy if I were you Michigan fans,” Klatt indicated. “Mainly because the one thing that will derail your season faster than anything else is if JJ McCarthy starts to turn the ball over. So that’s why I would be antsy.”
