Joel Klatt says Michigan 'controls its own destiny' in CFB Playoff chase
Joel Klatt has long been a believer in Michigan. He’s gone on record as saying that Jim Harbaugh is one of the best developers of talent in the country.
So it’s not much of a surprise that Klatt still believes in the Wolverines, despite that Week 1 loss to Notre Dame. He doesn’t think Michigan has a chance to win the B1G, he believes it has a chance to still secure a bid in the College Football Playoff.
While on FS1’s Speak For Yourself, Klatt said that there’s enough quality games on Michigan’s remaining schedule to beef up its CFB Playoff resume. If it took care of business, they’d be a no-brainer.
“I think there are just a handful of teams that can honestly say they control their own destiny toward the Playoff,” Klatt said. “I think Michigan is still one of those teams. They’ve got enough of those resume-builders on their schedule, like Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State, Ohio State. If they were to take care of business — and the way that they’re playing, they might — they would find themselves in the Playoff.”
Later, on Lock It In, Klatt said that Michigan is a team that other B1G squads should be fearing.
“I would watch out if I was in the B1G, because if there is a team that’s slightly under the radar right now that I would bet on to potentially win that conference, it would Michigan,” Klatt said. “In particular without (Nick) Bosa on the field for Ohio State. Watch out for the Wolverines.”
Klatt isn’t the only college football analyst to believe Michigan is still in the mix. Earlier this week, Kirk Herbstreit said he believes UM is still capable of reaching the Playoff, as well.
Michigan currently owns a 3-1 record and is 1-0 in conference play. Despite the season-opening loss, the Wolverines have looked much better on the field.
This Saturday, Michigan travels to Evanston to take on Northwestern.
