Josh Ross confirms Michigan defense will be as strong as ever in 2019
In the four years Jim Harbaugh has been in Ann Arbor, Michigan has held solid on the defensive side of the football. Don’t expect that to change this fall.
The Wolverines lost a ton of talent from last year’s team, either to graduation or early NFL Draft entry. Names lie David Long, Rashan Gary, Devin Bush, Chase Winovich and others are no longer sporting the maize and blue uniform. That’s enough to have some folks concerned about that side of the football this year.
Michigan linebacker Josh Ross has reassured everyone that there won’t be a decline in Michigan’s defensive production or ability. he says the continuity between the players is too strong to let something like that happen.
“No,” Ross told Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News when asked if the defense will see a drop off. “One of the biggest things is we’ve been playing — we’ve been around each other for three, four years. All us guys know each other, know how we play. There’s not gonna be a drop off.
“We’ve got great guys. We’ve got Kwity Paye, Lavert Hill, myself, just guys on the defense to where, we’re gonna come get it, no matter what.”

The Wolverines still have plenty left in the stable to have another solid year defensively. In addition to names like Khaleke Hudson, Josh Uche, Hill, Paye, Josh Metellus and others, there are some incoming freshmen like Dax Hill who could see the field as well.
A combination of skill and experience will continue to take the field every Saturday for the Wolverines defensively. And, hey, as long as Don Brown is running the show, Michigan is in pretty good hands.
