Juwan Howard is loving Friday’s news for Michigan’s football program.

That is, of course, the news that Sherrone Moore is being elevated to the full-time head coach to replace Jim Harbaugh. Already expected to receive the job following Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL, the Wolverines made the news official Friday night.

Meanwhile, Howard was in the midst of a video teleconference with the media. He was asked about the decision and extended congratulations to Moore.

“No, I did not know. So it’s officially today? I’m so happy for him,” said Howard. “Congratulations to Sherrone and his family.”

As for the move to keep Moore, Howard felt it was a “great decision” by Michigan’s leadership to elevate the offensive coordinator. Howard specifically pointed to Moore’s work as the acting head coach and a win over Ohio State that was “the icing on the cake.”

“I think it’s a great decision by the athletic department to hire a coach who has a great relationship with the players and staff,” said Howard. “He’s proven he’s a great coach as far as when coach Harbaugh wasn’t present, Coach Moore stepped up and did a fabulous job in hostile Lion’s Den, and I’m talking about Penn State and getting that big win.”
