Bell’s injury ends what was looking like a promising season for him. The senior compiled 1,159 yards in his previous two seasons (18 games) with the Wolverines).
Before exiting on Saturday, he made an incredible play on a 76-yard touchdown catch vs. the Broncos. Michigan went on to win the game 47-14.
On the bright side for Michigan, quarterback Cade McNamara looked good vs. Western Michigan. He completed 9-of-11 passes for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns. 5-star freshman JJ McCarthy was also effective, completing 4-of-6 passes for 80 yards and 1 touchdown.
Michigan’s running game really shined in the opener. Blake Corum led the way with 14 carries for 111 yards, but Hassan Haskins was also great with 70 yards on 13 carries. Both players scored touchdowns as well.
Michigan hosts Washington in Week 2.
