Juwan Howard received heavy criticism following Michigan’s 62-50 loss to Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

The defeat almost certainly means that Michigan will not be invited to the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines finished the year with a 17-15 record and are just 3-12 against Quad 1 opposition. They also have a Quad 4 loss on their résumé (Central Michigan).

It’s a disappointing result for a Michigan team that has so much talent. Freshman forward Jett Howard is expected to be a 1st round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Players like Hunter Dickinson and Kobe Bufkin could also have professional opportunities following this season.

Michigan ended the year with 3 straight losses vs. Quad 1 opposition. Two of those games, vs. Illinois and Indiana, ended in overtime defeats.

The Wolverines entered Thursday’s game vs. the Scarlet Knights with a chance to do play its way into the NCAA Tournament. However, Michigan’s offense sputtered in the 2nd half and managed just 22 points after the break. Several of those points came long after the outcome had already been decided.

After the game, Michigan fans took to Twitter to criticize Howard after the team fell short of expectations this season. Here’s the best of that reaction:
