Kalel Mullings declares for NFL Draft after breakout campaign for Michigan
Kalel Mullings produced a breakout performance for Michigan during the 2024 season. Now, the star running back is indeed heading to the NFL Draft, he confirmed in a note on social media.
“To the University of Michigan, the last five years at this university have shaped (me)into (the) man I am today,” wrote Mullings. “I am proud to be an alumnus of the greatest university in the world.
“I am excited to announce I am officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft.”
Mullings began his career as an elite linebacker prospect, joining the Wolverines as a 4-star recruit and top-200 player nationally in the 2020 recruiting class. He first saw action in the backfield during the 2022 season in a dynamic 2-way season.
During that campaign, Mullings had 3 rushing touchdowns as a short-yardage back after Blake Corum’s injury while also registering 12 tackles. He also delivered a memorable 15-yard completion on a trick play in The Game to help ignite the Wolverines.
For the past 2 seasons, Mullings has been a sole RB for the Wolverines. He rushed for 222 yards behind Corum and Donovan Edwards a season ago before breaking out this fall.
While many expected Edwards to shine in a primary role this year, it was Mullings who led Michigan with 948 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. It was a particularly meaningful performance for the RB after opponents of the Wolverines began stacking the box defensively with the struggles of the passing game.
Mullings set a career-high mark with 159 rushing yards against USC, including a memorable performance on Michigan’s game-winning drive. He also capped the season with 116 yards and a huge 3rd-down pickup against Ohio State to set up the eventual game-winning field goal.
We’ll see where Mullings winds up to begin his NFL career after an impressive performance with the offense this fall.
