Kirk Herbstreit is on Jim Harbaugh’s side when it comes to how he’s handling the QB battle in Ann Arbor. As a former quarterback himself, he understands why Harbaugh is doing what he’s doing per The Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis.

Herbstreit’s experience at QB while at Ohio State has helped him understand why Harbaugh’s method makes sense. Herbie stated that the Michigan HC really understands the importance of rhythm.

“A guy that played quarterback, I think he understands the importance of rhythm,” Herbstreit said of Harbaugh, the former Michigan and NFL quarterback. “And as a guy who played quarterback, I can really appreciate that that’s the opportunity that’s being provided to me. Whereas, if it’s every other series, there’s a little bit of a tendency to make sure you don’t make a mistake or you’re looking over your shoulder.

Harbaugh recently announced how he’ll be handling the battle. During the first two weeks of the season, Harbaugh will give both guys a chance to prove they can earn the starting job.

Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy will still have to prove who the better quarterback is, and will each get a game of their own to do so. In Week 1, it will be McNamara starting against Colorado State.
