Michigan’s performance on the field is enough to crack into the College Football Playoff picture, according to Kirk Herbstreit.

As he does every week, the college football analyst updated his top four following Saturday’s action. With No. 3 LSU getting hammered by No. 1 Alabama and No. 5 Michigan obliterating No. 14 Penn State, Herbie pushed the Wolverines into his top four.

Michigan was No. 5 in Herbstreit’s rankings last week. It is the only team from the B1G to receive any recognition from the analyst.

Here’s what Herbstreit’s top six looks like, which includes the two teams on the outside of the playoff picture currently.

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Michigan
  5. Georgia
  6. Oklahoma

Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame are all undefeated while Michigan, Georgia and Oklahoma each have one loss on the season. It will be interesting to see if the selection committee agrees with Herbstreit’s rankings.

The first week of November is in the books, meaning we have just three regular season games left until Championship Saturday. There’s still plenty to be decided on the field.

Certainly the four teams Herbstreit has listed in his rankings have been playing the best football of anyone in the country. Can they keep it up for the remainder of the season?
