Mel Pearson is dealing with an investigation into allegations of misconduct, and reports from Tuesday have shed some ugly light on the Michigan hockey program.

According to Samuel Dodge with MLive.com, Pearson repeatedly lied to investigators during an investigation into his Wolverine hockey program. A separate story published by Samuel Dodge with MLive.com included the full findings of the report into Pearson’s program.

According to the report, the investigation looked into issues of sexual or gender-based discrimination. Issues with COVID-19 protocol were not a focus of the investigation but did arise.

The report also alleges former director of hockey operations Rick Bancroft bullied female hockey staff. Pearson is charged with not doing enough to reprimand or stop Bancroft’s behavior.

Here are some of the allegations from the 70-page report:

  • Pearson “instructing students to lie on their COVID-19 tracing forms” ahead of the 2021 NCAA Tournament opener in North Dakota.
  • Pearson and Bancroft discriminating against female staffers and “creating a toxic work environment for female support staff.”
  • Pearson retaliating against a student athlete for “raising concerns” about the hockey team’s culture.
  • Bancroft knowing about sexual misconduct committed by late UM athletic Dr. Robert Anderson
