Michigan AD Warde Manuel discusses expectations for Jim Harbaugh: He makes his own seat hot
Jim Harbaugh is no stranger to high expectations, but he has yet to achieve his first true breakthrough season with the Wolverines.
Harbaugh took over in Ann Arbor heading into 2015 and immediately turned the program around. He produced a 10-win season in his first year, the first for the Wolverines since 2011.
Since that time, Harbaugh has three 10-win seasons and has never won less than eight games a year. Unfortunately, the big blemish on his resume is a 2-2 record against in-state rival Michigan State and an ugly 0-4 record against Ohio State.
Despite Harbaugh’s struggles against Michigan’s biggest rivals, AD Warde Manuel is still confident he has the right man for the job. During a recent appearance on the View from the Press Box Podcast with Angelique Chengelis, Manuel discussed the expectations for Harbaugh and the team as a whole.

Manuel admitted the goal at Michigan is to win every game and always be in the discussion for B1G and National Championships. However, he remains confident in Harbaugh because of the pressure Harbaugh places on himself.
According to Manuel, he doesn’t threaten any of his coaches to win specific games because he knows how badly Harbaugh wants to win. Harbaugh’s seat may be hot, but that’s only because Harbaugh makes it hot with his personal expectations:
“He makes his own seat hot because he wants to win and drive success every day. Just like I make this seat hot that I want to come in here and push myself and my teams and my staff drive success every day. Nobody can say anything outside of here that makes me more driven. Nobody.”
Regardless of expectations, it is about time for Harbaugh to record his first win over the Buckeyes. Until he does so, certain fans will always be left wanting more. Fortunately for the Wolverines, this year’s matchup with Ohio State will be in Ann Arbor.
