By now, college basketball fans around the B1G and around the country are aware of Sunday’s scuffle following the game between Michigan and Wisconsin. That scuffle was punctuated by Juwan Howard and Greg Gard exchanging words before Howard swung at and made contact with a Wisconsin assistant, starting a brawl on the sideline.

In the aftermath, Michigan AD Warde Manuel released a statement about the incident. Manuel said there is “no excuse” for a physical altercation and said he reached out to Wisconsin AD Chris McIntosh to apologize.

“I am aware of and watched the end of our men’s basketball game. There is no excuse for any of our staff or student-athletes to get into a physical altercation with others regardless of instigating factors. I reached out and apologized to Chris McIntosh and president Coleman as reached out to UW chancellor Blank to apologize for the totally unacceptable behavior. We will review the situation more thoroughly and work with the Big Ten Conference as they determine their disciplinary actions and will determine if any further disciplinary actions are needed.”
