Charleston’s addition gives U-M eight scholarship wideouts on the 2024 roster. He joins Peyton O’Leary, Tyler Morris, Kendrick Bell, Fredrick Moore, Semaj Morgan, Channing Goodwin and I’Marion Stewart.
What the Wolverines get in Charleston
Charleston’s addition won’t do much to move the needle on a national level. He’s unlikely to be mentioned when the experts start publishing 2024 season predictions.
Charleston, though, is the kind of player a team can expect to find in the spring portal. He’s mature and he has experience as a contributor in the passing game. An added bonus is that Charleston already knows one Michigan staffer well.

The 2024 season will be Charleston’s sixth of playing college football. He did a 4-game redshirt in 2019. There was the COVID year further extending his eligibility and a 2022 season missed due to a fall-camp injury.
Charleston’s production has increased with experience. He’s coming off his most productive season yet.
In 2023, Charleston started all 13 games for Youngstown State. He posted career-highs of 33 catches for 503 yards and 4 touchdowns. Charleston’s standout season brings his career numbers to 61 receptions for 867 yards and 4 touchdowns over 31 games.
Charleston’s career numbers against FCS competition aren’t going to do much to excite Michigan, or worry many Big Ten opponents. Adding experience with production that trends upward, though, checks the boxes for a spring transfer portal pickup.
Charleston is unlikely to be WR1 or earn All-B1G, but the Wolverines should be able to count on him to do his job when called upon.
