Michigan added an intriguing defensive back to its 2024 roster on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolverines have received a commitment from ex-UNLV cornerback Ricky Johnson. An experienced player, Johnson spent 4 year at UNLV before entering the transfer portal but will still have 2 years of eligibility remaining in Ann Arbor.

The talented cornerback had previously committed to Washington State, but will instead be soon enrolling at Michigan.
Johnson was a very productive player when healthy during his time at UNLV. He has 78 tackles, 4 interceptions and 10 pass deflections in his career, with the vast majority of that production coming during the 2023 and 2021 seasons.
Johnson becomes an immediate option to potentially start games for Michigan in the secondary. Mike Sainristill was selected in the 2nd round of the 2024 NFL Draft, leaving an opening at cornerback alongside returning-starter Will Johnson. Michigan’s latest transfer addition will likely compete with Jyaire Hill, Aamir Hall, Myles Pollard and others for that vacant starting role.
Johnson is the 9th transfer to commit to Michigan so far this offseason. It’s been a relatively-quiet transfer cycles for the Wolverines, especially considering how much talent they lost to the NFL Draft following their national title run this past season. Michigan’s transfer class ranks 54th nationally, per 247Sports’ rankings.
Michigan will open the 2024 season against Fresno State on Aug. 31.
