Michigan has confirmed the hiring of a second coordinator for Sherrone Moore’s initial staff in Ann Arbor.

Early Friday, the Wolverines announced that Moore’s offensive coordinator post would be filled from within. Michigan’s new OC will be Kirk Campbell, the program’s quarterbacks coach who served as the offensive playcaller during this year’s game against East Carolina. Grant Newsome has also been moved to coach the offensive line after previously serving as the tight ends coach.

Now, Michigan is elevating an analyst to serve as the special teams coordinator under Moore. That individual is JB Brown, an assistant who has been at Michigan as a special teams analyst since 2021. He previously served as the ST coordinator for Texas Southern from 2019-20 and has previous stints as a graduate assistant at Kansas and Houston.

“Coach Brown has an outstanding mind for special teams and knows how we want to attack that phase of the game,” said Moore. “He has been a key factor in our special teams success and he will help us continue to be a leader in this important aspect of the game. I am glad to keep J.B. his wife Jessica and their family here in Ann Arbor and part of the Michigan Football program.”

“I am excited for this opportunity and grateful to Coach Moore,” said Brown. “Having been in meetings and at practice the last three seasons, I know how we want to run our special teams units and I will ensure we are an aggressive group capable of making plays that set up our offense and defense for success. I cannot wait to get working more actively with our players and to get to work for an outstanding set of spring practices.”

Brown steps into the post vacated by Jay Harbaugh who leaves Ann Arbor to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff in the NFL. Now, attention will turn to the defensive coordinator position and replacement to Jesse Minter.
