Michigan beats 7 B1G programs for pledge from 2023 DL out of Illinois
Michigan won a recruiting battle against several other B1G programs this week, adding to its 2023 class.
Tuesday, the Wolverines received a verbal pledge from 3-star defensive lineman Brooks Bahr, a Top 10 prospect out of the state of Illinois. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound lineman held 16 offers, half of which came from B1G schools.
“First of all, I would like to thank the coaches and staff from each of the schools that have recruited me, believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play for such respected programs,” Bahr wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank my parents for their support in this whole process and the countless sacrifices to find the right fit.
“That being said, I am grateful to announce I am 100% committed to the University of Michigan. Go Blue!”
Bahr is ranked just outside the Top 500 nationally, coming in at No. 504 according to 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also listed as a Top 75 defensive lineman and the No. 9 prospect from Illinois.
Bahr commits to Michigan over offers from 7 other B1G programs, including Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin. Other Power 5 teams to extend an offer included Duke, Iowa State, Kansas and Vanderbilt.
Michigan is now up to 6 commitments in the 2023 class, ranking 12th nationally and fifth in the B1G. Below are high school highlights from Bahr:
