Michigan added a major piece to its 2025 recruiting class on Friday afternoon.

The Wolverines landed a commitment from 4-star safety Kainoa Winston, beating out Big Ten rivals Penn State and Oregon for his pledge.

Winston shared the news of his commitment with On3’s Hayes Fawcett:

Winston is a huge addition for the Wolverines in the class of 2025. He’s the No. 88 overall player and the No. 9 safety in the country for this class, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Winston is also the No. 1 player from Washington DC in this cycle.

Winston took an official visit to Ann Arbor in late May. He’s the second 2025 4-star prospect to commit to Michigan this month, joining defensive lineman Jaylen Williams.

Overall, Michigan is now up to 7 commits in the class of 2025. The group ranks No. 40 nationally, per 247Sports. Sherrone Moore and Michigan’s revamped coaching staff has seemingly made a big push to add recruits to this class in recent weeks.

Winston will be able to officially sign with the Wolverines during the Early Signing Period in December. As for this fall, Michigan is hoping to get back to the College Football Playoff and defend its national title from a year ago. According to the latest odds from FanDuel, Michigan is -105 to reach the CFP in 2024.
