Michigan defeated Rutgers 84-82 on Friday night in dramatic fashion.

After trailing for much of the game, the Wolverines won yet another close game thanks to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Nimari Burnett.

Here’s a clip of the scene from Ann Arbor:

Michigan has now won 9 consecutive games that were decided by 4 points or less. That stretch began with Michigan’s overtime win over Northwestern way back on Jan. 19. The Wolverines do have 2 losses over that span — by 27 to Purdue and by 13 to Michigan State — but they have consistently won their close games for the last 6 weeks or so.

Michigan is 11-4 overall this season in games decided by 4 points in either direction. That’s the most wins by any team in the country for the 2024-25 campaign, per Radar360.

Since 2002-03, only 1 Division I team has won more regular-season games decided by 4 points or less in a single season: Wright State in 2007-08. UNC Wilmington also matched Michigan’s 11 such wins back in 2004-05. The only other power-conference team to win double-digit games by 4 points or less in a single regular season over that span was Alabama (10) in 2012-13.

Michigan’s defense was outstanding the comeback win over Rutgers, particularly in the 2nd half. The Wolverines allowed just 25 points after the break en route to the comeback win.

Michigan will face Illinois at home on Sunday.
