Michigan becomes betting favorite to win national title entering Week 9
Michigan is the new national title favorite heading into Week 9 of the season. The Wolverines reached their bye week with a perfect 8-0 record and an unprecedented string of dominance along the way.
Saturday night, the Wolverines rolled over in-state rival Michigan State with a 49-0 shutout of the Spartans. It was the first shutout in the rivalry since 2000 with a particularly dominant outing for the program.
As for the national title, reigning two-time national champion Georgia has been the betting favorite in the national championship odds since the start of the season. However, the Wolverines have pulled ahead slightly coming out of Week 8 and now lead the Bulldogs. Georgia was idle in Week 8 with a bye.
After those two programs, Ohio State and Florida State round out the top 4 teams in the odds, but it is clearly Michigan and Georgia leading the pack. Washington, Oklahoma and Alabama are other notable programs near the top. It’s not hard to see why Michigan is trending upward in the odds. The Wolverines have scored at least 30 points in every game this season and have not allowed more than 10 at any point.
Coming out of Week 8, Michigan is 6th in the country while averaging 40.6 points per game and leads the nation with an impressive 5.9 points allowed per game. There is still a long way to go, but Michigan has aced each and every test ahead of its bye week as November awaits.
