Michigan CB coach to young corners: 'They need to grow up and get used to being in college'
Michigan’s 2018 season has been a pretty successful one.
In Week 1, the No. 12 Wolverines hit a low. No. 5 Notre Dame proved that it belonged and Michigan didn’t look to be on the same level. Since then, however, the Wolverines have won 5 straight games.
Michigan is now 5-1 with a huge B1G clash upcoming in Week 7 when the team hosts No. 15 Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. The game can be watched on ABC and ESPN’s College GameDay will be in Ann Arbor.
Everyone knows Wisconsin loves to run the ball and will do so at a fairly efficient manner. But what about when the Badgers actually pass?
That may be the key to the game. Michigan cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich gave his younger corners a message ahead of the Badgers game:
“They need to grow up and get used to being in college and understand it’s a little different than being a four or five-star guy. You’re now a zero-star guy and you have to start from the beginning, you compete every day and you get better every day,” Zordich said. “They’ve got a long way to go, brother. As long as they understand that and they come here to work every day, they’ll be fine because they’ve got talent. I’ll tell you that right now, they’ve got talent. That’s why they’re here.
“They’re aware that they need to earn their stripes. Some of them need to know that. First of all, it’s a hell of a school to go to. That opportunity in itself just to get this education is one thing. Then you have an opportunity to be apart of a hell of a football tradition and contribute and play. That’s why they’re here. As I said, they’re really good players, they just have to learn to adjust. That’s all.”
Zordich makes a good point. Younger players at any elite program probably think a lot about themselves — as they should. They have to be incredibly athletic and good at what they do.
But what have they proven in college yet? Not much.
