Football is closing in on us and we can’t wait.

We’re almost to the month of August, which, is exactly when the college football season begins. With that, numerous awards are announcing their watch lists. Whether it be for best QB, best RB, best WR, top defensive player — numerous studs around the country are seeing their names pop up on these lists.

Michigan DB Lavert Hill is one of those. On Friday, he was one of 40 student-athletes to be named to the Walter Camp Award watch list. The Walter Camp Award is given annually to the top player in college football.

You can think of it as a different version of the MVP or Heisman Trophy, so for a DB to be named to its watch list is pretty impressive. Outside of just the Walter Camp’s watch list, Hill has been named to the Bednarik Award and Nagurski Award watch lists as well (for best defender).

That’s not all, though. Hill has been named to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list, which is given to the top defensive back. Big Ten offensive minds know Hill’s name and his ability.

The senior DB will certainly be flying all over the field this fall and creating headaches for opposing offenses. Last season, Hill was a Thorpe Award semifinalist and was a third-team All-American according to the Associated Press.
