Michigan defensive back Zeke Berry knew his team needed a play. Fortunately, he was able to step up and give possession back to Michigan in a key situation during the 2nd quarter of Saturday’s game vs. Minnesota.

Minnesota had already started one possession pinned back deep in its own territory with a chance to try and dig out from the shadow of its end zone. A pass to Daniel Jackson on 3rd down was going to come up short of the sticks, but he kept fighting for yardage through contact.

However, that’s when Berry struck, going straight for the ball with Jackson’s legs wrapped up. Berry was able to simply rip the ball away and secure possession in a single motion, giving the Wolverines the ball back deep in the red zone.

That play proved crucial with Michigan capping the drive off with a short touchdown run to Kalel Mullings moments later. The touchdown gives Michigan 34 points off turnovers this season, tied for the most in the Big Ten.

With an offense that is currently challenged at times, the defense giving Michigan short fields to work with is a major  boost.
