Mike Macdonald’s first season leading the defense for Jim Harbaugh turned up aces for Michigan.

Despite a late-game letdown vs. Michigan State, the Wolverines rolled to a B1G title with wins over archrival Ohio State and Iowa to head into the College Football Playoff. Even with the loss to Georgia, Michigan appears to have the right pieces in place for Harbaugh to build off of heading into 2022.

Macdonald’s work with the defense would make a sudden departure all the more disappointing. However, he is reportedly a name that may be considered for a DC vacancy in the NFL.

According to Mike Preston with The Baltimore Sun, Macdonald is a name to “keep an eye on” as a potential favorite for the DC vacancy with the Baltimore Ravens.

A return to the Ravens would make some sense. Macdonald spent 7 seasons on John Harbaugh’s staff before coming to Ann Arbor, most recently as Baltimore’s LB coach from 2018-20.
