Michigan defensive back Caden Kolesar will reportedly miss the rest of the 2022 season with a torn ACL, per MLive.

This is a major blow to Michigan’s secondary and special teams unit. Kolesar suffered the season-ending injury during Saturday’s 27-14 win over Iowa. Kolesar exited the game in the 4th quarter with a non-contact injury. This injury turned out to end his season 2 months early.

Kolesar suffered the injury while running down the field on punt coverage. The loss will hurt Michigan’s entire special teams unit, which is one of the best special teams units in the conference. He was a key contributor on special teams this season with a blocked punt in the win over Connecticut in Week 3.

For his performance against UConn, Kolesar was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. He grew into a significant role on punt and kickoff coverage. On defense, Kolesar mostly came off the bench as a backup safety. He finished the season with 8 total tackles on defense in 5 games.

This was a disappointing end to his senior season at Michigan. As a junior in 2021, Kolesar appeared in all 14 games as a special teams player. He saw playing time in six games on defense.

Michigan will move forward without Kolesar in Week 6 vs. Indiana.
